Bishopsgate Search Ltd (company number 12940674) is a data controller because we handle your personal data (information relating to an identifiable individual) for the legitimate purpose of providing our recruitment services to candidates and clients. 

 In a nutshell:

·         We do not send CVs without express permission (oral or written). 

·         At any time, we will delete your personal data upon your request. 

·         If you do not want to be contacted by the agency on publicly available telephone numbers (for example your firm switchboard or direct dial listed on the firm website) it is necessary to store this request on our database. 

·         Personal data must be kept accurate and up to date; please help us keep our records current.

2.       Who is Bishopsgate?

We are a recruitment business that specialises in placing fee-earners (wherever qualified) into the legal market in London.   The data we collect is used for legitimate business interest of providing recruitment services. 

3.       What personal data do we collect?

General Data:

Name and position, contact details, interests, marital status, number of dependents, links to your profile on LinkedIn and your firm website, details of your work experience, career history and expertise, education history and professional qualifications, remuneration and benefits, interview feedback created by us or our clients

Marketing Data:

We record your preferences to receiving marketing and other information updates from us.

Website Data:

including IP address, MAC address, login data, browser type, time and location, operating system and platform, mobile phone location data and other technology on the devices you use to access our website and our services; how you use and navigate around our websites and what you browse within them. 

Verification Data: 

We may need to establish your right to work in the UK by taking a copy of or viewing your passport or driving licence.  If we need to do this you will need to provide your explicit consent in advance and you may request that we destroy these files and copies once you have provided the documents directly to your new law firm employer.

4.       Where do we get your personal data from?

We get our information the publicly available sections of the law society website, LinkedIn and your own firm or employer websites.  We may also find information in news articles or published in legal press and legal journals.

The remainder of our information is gathered directly from you so you have control over what you provide and you do not need to provide any information. 

5.       What do we do with your personal data?

We use it to provide recruitment services which is a legitimate business interest and may also be conducted by consent or under a contractual obligation if we have also entered into a contract;

We use it to identify and prevent fraud;

We use it to ensure we don’t contact you if you have requested us not to;

We store data securely behind password-protected logins;

We protect data through encryption;

We delete data upon your request;

Apart from outsourced secretarial support with a reputable company, we do not share data with anyone outside the agency without your express written or oral consent – unless we are under a legal obligation to do so;

We will not keep your data longer than reasonably necessary to provide recruitment services;

In the event that unsolicited emails or other data is sent to the Agency by prospective candidates or contacts and where the agency is unable to assist the data will be deleted;

6.       CRM administrator access

We use a reputable and long-established CRM provider.  When servicing the CRM or providing technical support though screen sharing they may see entries and personal data in our database.

7.       The website and cookies

When you access our website or online content we collect Website Data. Where a link on our website takes you to an external site this policy will no longer apply and the linked site’s policy applies.     

8.       Mobile network

If you call us from a number that is not withheld our phones will store your number.

9.       Aggregated data:

We may use aggregated data to improve our recruitment processes and website functionality. 

10.   Data custodian and transfer of date outside the EEA:

Our data custodian’s geos are located within the EEA.  Any transfer of your data outside of the EEA (for example to make introductions to firms or clients in other locations) will not be done without your prior consent.

11.   Internet transfer

We have physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure you information. The transmission of information through the internet is not completely secure so we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site or to our email addresses; any transmission is at your own risk.

12.   Internal policy and training

We have an internal policy document and training to protect your data and comply with this policy and GDPR.

13.   In the event of breach

In the event of breach though hacking or other means we will take immediate steps to comply with our legal obligations which may include notifying you and or the ICO. 

14.   Your Rights:

·         Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

·         Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

·         Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

·         Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

·         Your right to object to processing - You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

·         Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.

15.   Deemed acceptance and changes

You will be deemed to have accepted the terms of the Privacy Policy on your first use of our services or visit to our website so should stop using this site immediately if you do not agree to this policy.  If you have provided us with personal data that you wish us to delete please email us and we will respond as soon as practicable and comply with GDPR obligations.  This policy is subject to change from time to time and will be update here.  Last updated 19 October 2020.
